acoustic track, production advice?

Hey all, I'm going into the studio next week to get a few tracks down to start sending out to labels to help them fill up their bins.

Anyway I've got most of the tracks sorted in how they will be recorded and the production aspect. But I came up with this song at the weekend and I don't know whether to include it or not, also I don't know what to do with it interms of the production, any opinions/advice much appreciated.

FALL

Just recorded quick with one mic in a small room, mic mostly directed at the vocals, first verse repeated (hadn't come with 2nd one then) so quality ain't what you gonna hear

I quite like how the vocals sound, I just got a SE Gemini, I know not many here like it, but I got it for half price and I like what it does to my voice.

I like the song!

Some suggestions:

Vocals: i like the sound very much, but i think the vocals are a bit too loud in the mix and the first verse isn't articulated well, so i can't hear what you are singing.

Song: I think the song at this moment is a little bit too monotone. If it was my song i wuld be adding some acoustic bass guitar in the 2nd verse, ad a violin in the 2nd chorus and after that some percussion. The song needs to built up to a climax, but now its 4 minutes the same and i can imagine that that's too long for an average listener to be caught by an acoustic song where nothing really changes.

This is ofcourse my humble opinion

Hi, no I totaly agree, obviously doesn't help I haven't worked out the other verse lyrics yet! This is like a simple line drawing and I'm trying to work out what and how much colour to add, if you get what I mean?

I was thinking along the same lines as you, I can almost already hear an upright bass, so that is going in for sure. I would add a violin but I don't want to fall into the abc of production but then if it works, it works.

Any other ideas? I think I'm going to take this mic along to the studio because I think it work for my voice.

Cheers
