New song - mix/song comments appreciated

Just finished a new track I've been working on for the last few weeks. Comments on the mix and song/arrangement are appreciated. Drums are BFD, guitars and bass are Amplitube2/Ampeg SVX. Keys are some preset in Reason. I think the mix is pretty balanced, but I'm open to ideas.

what did you use for the vocal distortion? i really like it. pretty good overall mix. the drums are a bit 'spongy', perhaps simpliy a louder kick/snare would help. also a little more 100 hz from the bass would be good. like tones though.

thanks, the vocal distortion was izotope trash, can't remember the settings, but it's a pretty cool plug, tons of different distortion algorithms.

I like the song and I think with a little more arrangement and some live drums it would sound awesome.

I like the vocal distortion but I think there should be a chorus where the vocal is right in your face. Like real nice and crisp sounding where you hear the throat coming thru. I like it though. I really think live drums would bring out the dynamics much more. BFD is cool but the human element and sound cannot be replicated.

Good job!

cool but

yeah yeah about the BFD drums I agree... But the distortion thats added to the vocals and the moshed mix, blurs the words. Since this song is a sing along style, bring those vocals through the mix. distortion or no distortion on the vocals, they should sit pretty over the mix.
Playing live this song might sound a little different, since your using Trash. Waves makes a cool plug called Enigma that does what this does, (its actually what they use on the Killers Vocals. Its a little bit clearer than Trash....
Overall pretty cool...

thanks for the comments so far. I definitely agree with what you guys are saying about the vocals being mushy and uninteligible. I listened to this track in my car after posting it, and the mix definitely needs some work. I'm gonna do another mix, probably cut some midrange from the guitars, and try to make the vocals stand out a little more, cus all the distortion is making everything pretty hazy sounding. I'll check out that Enigma plug, the Killers type vocal sound would probably work really well here.

Thanks for the comments, keep em coming!

I remixed that track quite a bit and added another vocal on the chorus. I also ditched the izotope trash on the chorus, and just used a little tapehead on the vox to grit it up instead. I think this brings out the chorus a little more, but I hope the vocals aren't too "clean" now.
