getting music into the iTunes Music Store?

Anyone ever done this or know anything about it? Seems like iTunes would be the way to get music out (as opposed to these soundclick websites that only artists go to it seems like). Anybody know anything about it? I see that there's an online application for independent artists or labels, but the application doesn't seem to indicate any liklihood of getting listed.

yeah, I just found that, looks pretty cool if you sold 10 copies or so of your songs you'd break even! I wonder how likely that is...

looks like cd baby has a one time fee per album as well that's a bit higher (they also make physical cds).

i think getting the album in itunes is the easiest part.. the hard part is for people to go to those albums cause usually the main space is always for the major companies that have
arrangemnts and pay a lot for that shelf space, but if u market it right at concerts/dj events etc u can direct people to the itunes store.

i recently spent a bunch of time researching the best ways to get my music online and TuneCore was by far the best. The whole process cost less than $20 and my music was up right away. I'd recommend this to any artist who's looking for digital distribution.

Tunecore is nothing more than a label that makes money for being accepted into Itunes network. If you ask me, its seems trivial that people magically think they will sell music, if they are on Itunes. Snocap works the same way, is Myspace friendly (which has 174 Million accounts) I think thats your best way to start selling music. You make the same amount of money and get it a lot faster than Itunes. Sure everyone has an Ipod, they still play the MP3 format, well now they do...
Tunecore is great, but the 8 week waiting period still applies to your music you submit to them, not to mention they still wont know when your music is going to be active...

We've got all four of our albums on iTunes through CD baby. It was hassle free to setup. It's a nice interface and it lets us track our sales / DL's quick and easy. Then the $$ goes directly into the band bank account.

Though there is a one time fee per album $35? we have made it back plenty.

CDBaby is an excellent resource... as is Smart punk (depending on genre), Amazon, etc... The crux is before you pay anything, take preorders for your CD's... If you got that interest, then its worth the investment...
My project went through traditional distribution channels as we went with echospin. Echospin, doesnt just accept anyone, but thats an excellent resource if you have demand for your product.. They have a great deal more outlets world wide....

fwiw i recently had a great customer service experience with TuneCore.
i had a delay in the delivery time for an EP of mine to iTunes after TC had submitted the album.
it wasn't TC's fault, but because they 'guarantee' the arrival date basically and my EP had not shown up on iTunes by a bit after that arrival date, they refunded my money for the entire project.
AND they were very fast in responding to my emails and also were very friendly.

because of this i chose to use TuneCore again for my most recent project.
