Like it (like punkrock) but...the drums are too far away, and you can hear that in the first uptempo part (the beginning of the song) The kick should 'carry' the song in that part, and because it is too soft it blurs a bit.
Another thing: I like the thing with the panning, but it would be better to bring the sound back on both speakers when the drum comes crashing in again. (but that is just my taste ofcourse) Good song!

I'm just wondering, how many db's can a drum (kick/snare) peak in the mixing process above the guitars and vocals ?

Cause I really want to turn those puppys up , but I'm afraid to lose lots of headroom. And I'd rather have a constant sound than a dynamic one.
Is this something that is resolved in mastering? Or do I just need to compress the kick/snare more? Or do I need to blend the snare and kick more with the song? Or al of these above?

When I look at a commercial track I see peaks from less then 3dB but the sound really cuts trough. If I would just limit my track to that amount it would molest the drums.


Anyone got any ''theory'' on that?

Can you try out some compression on the kick and maybe snare? Let's see how that works. There are rules ofcourse for this but to be honest, I still work with my ears and every time I decide otherwise in a certain mix.

When I click homepage I get the temp index of my site so it works, although my real site of The Score Studio is not up yet. (that is because the photographer has to come by at the end of this month so I can put those pictures on the website. I only have a small studio, no big deal. Control room, Live Room and Vocal booth. I use MPC, Triton Extreme 88, Mac G5, Macbook, Mackie and I just ordered Mackie Universal mixer, SSL Duende, Focusrite Octopre and some Motu stuff for the midi. I also have my own drumkit over there since I also like to drum, and some guitars.
