Concrete Blonde: Tomorrow, Wendy (Cover)

i just remembered this song, off of Concrete Blonde's seminal "Bloodletting" album.
it's the last song on the album and it makes me really miss J. Napolitano's spectacular voice.

so i made a quick recording of it. i hope you like it.

Tomorrow, Wendy by Concrete Blonde

thanks for listening and for any comments/critiques!!

cheers.

Super-duper-ohmygawd-thumbsup!

I LOVE Concrete Blonde and this song is, in particular, stunning. I think you did a great job. I like hearing full production tunes stripped down to one instrument and a voice.

Great work.

As for missing JN's voice, why don't you buy some of the stuff after Bloodletting? Also, hit up her website... she's still out there and I'm sure would appreciate the support

Be careful you don't get sued. Permission is needed to cover someone's song and publish it in any way.

sued? for simply singing another person's song and not selling it, not making any profit?

that confuses me. if it's illegal to sing cover songs then wouldn't karaoke bars be shut down, or is live music a different thing than recorded music?

if what i am doing is not legal, i want to know about it and i will cease and desist. otherwise it really helps me to hear feedback about my mixes and my performances.
it is a learning tool for me.

Piano sounds great thumbsup (any details?) Vocal is too toppy for my taste, it has an annoying edge. What mic/pre/processing did you use?

the piano is actually Synthogy Ivory and i have been consistently impressed by this virtual piano; it is indistinguishable from a real Steinway/C7/Bosendorfer to many ears when recorded and tweaked well.

the vocal may indeed be too toppy. that edge you describe is probably me adding a bit too much EQ in the upper regions that may be unnecessary (+7dB shelving @ 12kHz).

the microphone is a Red Type B w/R8 capsule, usually needs very little EQ but in this case i added it anyway perhaps to the detriment of the track.

processing (ITB) includes Sonalksis, Chandler, Altiverb, RVerb, Sony Oxford Inflator, Massey L2007.

thanks for listening!
