| I need someone to master my CD!! So I've been using the same mastering guy for years. He's AMAZING. he's cheap! He knows exactly what I want. Now, for some reason, I can't get a hold of him. I need something mastered pretty quickly. I will be delivering all the audio in a protools 7.1 session with the stereo tracks in order with the correct amount of space between them etc etc... all easy stuff.. you can listen to what type of music it is at: www.myspace.com/stillsofjapan if you are interested, please reply with a quick list of equipment you may use and any other info you want me to know. thanks slutz! |

| Can you write em out as portable PCM files (BWF, AIFF, WAV)? What's the bit depth and sample rate? What turnaround time do you need? |

| why do you send the PT session??? Any real ME will want WAV or AIFF, maybe thats why he wont contact you anymore. Because you just said NO, I dont get it. And what is this about spacing? |

| Actually, a PT session as described is a nice, organized way to receive a project. I think by now, most decent mastering studios have a PT system available, even if it's just used for playback (like we use them here).

I create my own cross fades and have the songs spaced perfectly so when the the tracks are exported and brought into JAM or whatever software the mastering engineer will lay the CD out with, there will be a 2 second delay before track 1 and zero second delay before the rest of the tracks. this is how I've done it for many years, this is the first time anyone questioned me about it :-) ... it assures me that the CD will be laid out exactly as I want it. | |

| Sorry you lost such an accomodating ME. If you were not able to send PT projects, an ME can still observe your between-track timing specifications down to the sample. Your fades should already be there, and you'd tell him that you want the last sample in Tn to immediately preceed the first sample in Tn+1. However, if there's any DC (mute) at the end of Tn or at the beginning of Tn+1, indicate exactly how many milliseconds of silence to preserve between those tracks. You can still get the fade and timing results you want without sending a whole DAW project because any good ME can work with all the standard PCM file formats. |

Seems perfectly fine to me. ($80/track here... although this thread should be moved! )

| Agreed. I got a PT rig as a playback format early on (days of the D24 originally) because I had some clients who liked to deliver exactly like this. |

Done Brian! Many new people around here may not know that "New name Test" is the place to post when they are searching for mastering services. I believe the sub forum will have a different name sooner or later. And yes I also have session coming in in PT (nand Logic) sometimes. We use PTHD as a playback machine.
