Question I'm looking for mastering for many projects

I run a recording studio and over the years I have had trouble finding a good place to have my clients go for mastering. My clients' budgets are usually about $50-$100 a song. It is mostly local pop/rock stuff (some hip hop) though I have done the occasional big indie or major label recording.

I am hoping to find someone who doesn't just compress the hell out of everything, but actually listens to the audio and tries to enhance it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I always tell people to check the engineer's credits on places like AMG to get a good idea of their experience. Then we're just a phone call away...

Many, many great engineers on this board, contact them send a few tunes around for a test and find out who/what works for you and your music.

I won't pretend to speak for everybody, but personally, I *love* NOT compressing the hell out of everything...

Gee, I actually do love compressing :D but we live and learn. And I'm bloody good at getting commercial-hot cleanly without a lot of clipping and flattening the sound. Why don't you do some shootout-type threads here in the 'where to' forum and see who floats your boat?

having multiple mastering engineers test master the same song is a great idea. I'd make sure this guy gets a copy, he does good work.
