Recommend a Mastering Engineer in LA

I am looking for a Mastering Engineer to master my bands album. I should have it finished in the next 2 months. I am looking for someone who won't squash and limit the f$@k out of my mixes. The music we play varies from Ambient score music to Hard Rock and everywhere in between. It can be very dynamic and there is a lot of Orchestral instruments. So I am looking for someone who will do a good job of retaining the natural dynamics because that's how I am mixing it. It will be a full length album with 11 songs.
Here is a link to our music: http://myspace.com/illiummusic
None of these mixes are done but you'll get the picture.
I found 1 guy I am going to talk to, Dave Collins, if anyone has had any experience with him please share. He has mastered alot of records from Soundgarden to Sarah Brightman, so he seems like a good guy to talk too.
Also I will have between $1200-$1500 to spend.

Any other Recommendations?

Gavin @ TML

I have hired (and have enjoyed working with) Gavin Lurssen at The Mastering Lab. I like him lots.

Asked the same thing here over a year ago. After narrowing it down and testing a few candidates (many mastering engineers will do a test master of one track for cheap or even free), I went with Stephen Marsh at Threshold Sound.

You should give him a try. My album was also hard to master, since the engineer had to have both "classical" and "pop" sensibilities. Stephen came through with flying colors... really amazing job.

If you want to hear it (albeit in glorious mp3), check out my album website.

And to all of you who happen to be GRAMMY voters, help me get nominated by voting for my album. Details see this thread.

Thanks much!

Check out Mark Chalecki at Capitol. He's very musical....he's always done a great job on the projects I've brought him. Including remastering (from the source of course) one's that were F'd by others.

I know all the guys mentioned in the thread so far, and all are capable and experienced engineers. I think they're all worth checking into. If it were my project, Dave Collins would get the first call.
