| Tell me your favorite for Mastering on a budget? Hey folks. So this little studio thing is coming along. I have gotten good enough with the "in the box" thing that stuff is now getting mastered and released regularly. I am looking for a person (hopefully in L.A.) who works with little guys on there way to big guys such as myself. In the past I have mastered at future disk, paramount, Universal and capitol. I know what good mastering can do.However I found using different people all the time inconsistent. What's important to me in this case is to develop a relationship with one person and improve my craft as a result of that relationship. Have any of you folks found a situation like that? Ofcourse my budget is just that a budget. I think I should be able to get good work at under a 1000.00 U.S. an album. I guess I am really looking for a situation where the work we produce is just as important as the finance. Also pre mastering dialogue is important to me in order to present my mixes the best. Thanks! | You've described what I do. Although I'm not in LA, I have LA clients ...

| If you're looking to stay in the L.A. area you should probably call Dave Collins. I'm not sure what his rate is but I'm pretty sure it's reasonable. If you're looking for someone smart and experienced it starts with him. No matter who you choose to go with you should check their credits. It's the best way to get an idea of the scope of their experience. Try seaching on : www.allmusic.com or www.barnesandnoble.com You can also look up your favorite sounding records and check the mastering credit. Good luck. |

| We may have to have figure a method out to have a separate "I need mastering done" sub forum - with all communication by mastering houses to the person looking done off forum and in private via PM's or emails or phone. Out in the other forums - questions like "where do I get the cheapest" ---------- are by now very well known to cause trouble as overall, Gearslutz.com is not supposed to act as a Yellow Pages - saving people time to locate the best bargains, more as an engineer to engineer info exchange. The mastering forum is for discussing mastering, however the fact that many people frequenting this site could be potential clients for Mastering, is inescapable. If there is to be a 'jobs noticeboard' in future - it may be separate from this forum...possibly as a sub forum and possibly with all matters relating to price being private and conducted offline.

I know a very talented artist with a Jekyll-and-Hyde psycho thing oozing out the pores; intermittent unprovoked passive-aggressive attempts to sabotage, stalk, etc... *shakes head* If you know Princess Clara from "Drawn Together", lol. Once I made the distinction that she isn't one of those artists who just happen to be eccentric, I just had to 'disconnect' from her before the damage got worse. When you have faith in your own talent and passion for the work, it's always better to find a nice trustworthy person to partner up with, even if that person is semi-talented. | |
