| Mixing and Mastering work I have a bunch of stuff I recorded and I was thinking of hiring a professional to mix and master it ... I am not sure how to go about doing it... The thing is: I will have about 10 or 11 songs - some sequenced, some live...all recorded at different times and some even at different studios... they are arranged correctly, and I made a decent attempt to mix I have all these tracks: drums, keys, vocals, harmonies, guitar, etc... and I need someone to bring them all together and make them sound professional and CD ready... some stuff was recorded in 16 bit, some maybe in 24... I need them to deal with it and make it work... I have heard that some engineers dont want to work with material that was not recorded in their studio... I initially was gonna try to mix myself... but I gave up! I am an artist, not an engineer! I want to be able to give someone a bunch of independent tracks and have them mix/master it for me... in the end I just want the master disc to send to the cd manufacturers! anyone have any insight? Thanks! |

| When I interned in Nashville I sat in on a couple of sessions where the material was recorded somewhere else and the studio I was was interning at was doing the mixing and then the mastering. This, I was told, is a pretty common occurrence in Nashville and I am sure it is common elsewhere. In most studios around here the engineer who does the recording also does the mix. I have been asked to do mix-downs of client's material and have done so when we thought we could do a good job for the client. We are a mastering studio and not a recording studio and don't have a lot of outboard gear that most recording studios would have. We use Samplitude for our multichannel DAW and have been able to do a good job just using the plugins we have and that came with Sampltude. Most of the jobs when we do the mixing it is to expedite the process of making the CD or someone has older recordings they want to revisit for what ever reason and remix them. Best of luck in finding someone to help. Maybe you can find someone locally and be able to sit in on the sessions.
