Has anyone used this Mastering Studio?

Online Mixing

I'm considering working with this studio for mixing and mastering. The owner, Nick Cave, has been very pleasant and helpful so far in e-mail correspondence. They're located in France and their price is absolutely terrific! Anyone heard of them?

I don't know anything about Nick or his business but...

I would never ask a mixing engineer to master a project and I would never ask a mastering engineer to mix a project.

I would be weary of anyone that does both in the same studio.

Good luck.

i can say i dont trust those online mastering services anyway! at least if i dont know the engineers and the studio! often they call it a mastering studio and its a PC with cubase and wave plugins...where a guy has his pre-sets of plugins...adjusts it a bit and sells it for 50 bugs...

i dont wanna say that its the same in this case, but be aware!

The price for mixing a track sounds suspiciously low for a decent job. It takes 4 to 7 hours to mix a track properly so don't understand how it could be done for 65 euro. Don't see on the website anything that inspires confidence in terms of established credits (would "The BBC" really use such a studio and supply a testimonial?)

The price for mastering an album is at least half the price of cheap established mastering engineers with verifiable discography.

The engineer may be good and working at a loss to attract new clients, but if I were you I would be weary to commit to more than a song in case it is a total waste of time & money.
When something looks too good to be true, it usually is...

Just ask him for some samples of his work no big deal... If you like his work run with it, if you don't run like a bat out of hell to someone else and part ways amicably. No sense in burning bridges.

Thanks for the responses! The price is definitely really low. They do say they can mix by a song by song basis. I can try one song and see what I think. Could be a really good deal, though.

Check out their Facebook Page. They've posted recent projects they've tracked/mixed and mastered. Call me a sucker, but this studio looks to be legit. If so, the price is absolutely amazing!

I would agree that getting someone to both mix and master is not the best idea. There will be exceptions, but normally the objectivity that each individual can bring to the project is of value.

However, at the kind of money you are planning to spend, I am not sure it really matters all that much.

Keep in mind that I'm on a budget. I'm okay with having an "acceptable" mix. Besides, my style is raw folk-rock, like Pete Yorn. It doesn't need to, nor do I want it to sound polished like a Celine Dion mix/master.

But did you listen to the tracks they've mastered on I-tunes? Sounds pretty amazing to me! Who cares how they do it? In my eyes, it's the finished product that counts.

I realize this thread is attracting Mastering purists. I commend you for that...but in my eyes, if something can be done just as competently and cheaper through a different method, such as plugins, then I'm all for it.
