Brad Blackwood thread

I´ve sent a couple records to Brad, I think his work is amazing!! And with full honesty I only did because he is a gearslut, no other reason whatsoever. I never sent anything to Sterling or the other big name places but I feel I don´t need to anymore!!!!

I know this sounds stupid but as an amateur myself big name places are attractive and I´m curious to know what they can do that Brad can´t or vice versa, I personally think Brad should be working with major label stuff everyday!!

What do you guys think ? Is Brad a badass ME or am I missing something here ?

Brad is most definitely a badass and a gentleman as well ...
very profesional I think, and he really took the stuff I sent to him over the top ...
after my client listened to his work on his music he was so happy he cried ... seriously !
I also cried ... but that was because I realized my mixing sucked after listening to where the tracks could be taken seriously Brad, your work rocks

I think he does......

Sligthly off topic but....I don't think artistic merits can be attributed only based on "which labels the artits are signed to"
Just trying to say that any gig gets the same attention.
And I think that's true for every ME out there.

I agree with you! What I ment was that there are these Mastering worship places like Sterling, Capitol..Bob Ludwigs place.. and many others etc..

I think Brad´s place is up to par with any of those. Yet I don´t have the impression he is rated like that. I think he should, that´s why I started this thread.

I haven't had a ton of stuff done by Brad, but everything he's done for me turned out excellent. Unattended mastering sessions can be nail biters, but Brad seems to know where you want to go without you being there.

One of the bigger pitfalls I run into with people mastering my mixes is ME's aggressively rolling off low end sub's to cheat a couple milli-db of loudness into the project. I had no problems at all with my low end from Euphonic. He also added a 'pure' sounding coloration (subtle even ordered harmonic distortion?) to one of my tracks that stuck out a bit (2 track'ed instrument with rap on top of it) that really enhanced the track and made it fit in with the rest. He also maintained my imaging which is a big deal to me.

I also love the Euphonic t-shirts...

I've only sent a few records to BB, but everything came back sounding killer. He retains the sound I work hard for, but gives it a nice polished sound, a finished sound that mastering is suppost to do. I'll be sending everything to him that I have a say-so over.

Brad Rocks!!!!!!

He also has one of the coolest T-shirts ever. Thanks B.

Brad's one of those red herrings that is willing to say, '...it's fine the way it is'. I respect that more than anything. I've not personally given him anything of mine to master (yet), but have recommended him many times based upon the work he has done that I've heard. He has one of the best reputations around.

Brads a legend.

I am pretty sure he did do major label work and decided to do his own thing instead.

But he sure does know his stuff.

Blackwood is as good as anybody out there and better than most IMHO.

I could go on and on... And I won't.

An exceptionally gifted young man who will have his day in the sun.

Which will suck, because we won't be able to afford him anymore.

HOHOHO.

KIDDING!!!

KIDDING!!!

Kinda.

Best regards,

SM.

The last time I sent a client's EP to Brad for mastering, Universal Records went positively gonzo over the results. And for good reason. It sounded amazing. Loud, but not squashed. Very "analog" sounding (as if there is such a thing).

The client was happy, to say the least.

The overall transaction was easy as pie. Really f&cking easy dude to deal with.

I will fight like hell to convince any future label/manager/agent/client that Brad is THE guy to go to for mastering.

Brad.

there are T shirts?

We've sent a couple things to Brad, and considering he's still rocking two Pentium II machines running T -Rax in Dual Mono--- his work sounds really good.

T shirts.
