Mastering in Sweden I need to have one song mastered, which is "swedish melodic metal / metalcore" music. I always thought that to have it mastered in Sweden would be a great idea. A lot of CDs I enjoy in the music style are mastered there by specific studios. I contacted the CUTTING ROOM mastering studio and they charge me 260 euros for the song. I love the sound of some albums mastered by them (In Flames, Darkane, Soilwork...), so I guess they would do the job great. I also got in touch with the MASTERING ROOM AB and Goran Finnberg, and they only charge me 65 euros for the song. Did you have experiences with those ? Cutting Room has mastered a lots of swedish metal CDs I love, but it seems Mastering Room does a good job too. Do you have any other suggestions on where may I go ? (i enjoy Daniel Bergstrand, Fredrik Nordstrom, Andy Sneap... work particularely)

I would try Ue Nastasi from Sterling Sound NY. They should master your song for even less and they do a killer job! Matej

Thanks for the help ! I think the Cutting Room will be my first choice. Is Peter In De Betou still working on there ?? I can't see his name, yet he is a great actor at mastering european metal music.

Goran Finnberg has done quite a few heavy records. I don't think you could go wrong with taking that route. I'm sure he's done some of The Haunted's CD's... as well as some of the other bands you mentioned. ryan

Björn Engelmann at Cutting Room is outstanding, highly recommended. Unfortunately I've yet to hear good mastering come out of Bohus, but maybe that's just me.

| I've had several records mastered at Cutting Room, one sold 1.5 million copies - and no complaints :-) Great and reasonable prices. Björn E. is the one you want, IMO. He is great for a wide range of styles.

I've had a few things mastered by Björn but that was back in the vinyl days, first thing was a selfproduced 7inch in '88. I didn't have much to compare with but the latest thing I had him master (mid 90's) I wasn't too happy with. I thought it sounded as the mix got somewhat deadend or however to explain this... But alot of people liked it and from reading what you like I could imagine you'd be pleased by his work. In my opinion he got much better the last couple of years and I would like to use him again now! Cutting Room has always been very professional and I think Björn is also a very cool guy who listens to the customer if you have the chance to be there while mastering!

There's also a very good place in Copenhagen that would suite your taste in Scandinavian metal! The guy's a total fan of that sound, plus a Rammstein freak and VERY VERY good! I can't remember the name and we forgot to credit him... It's in this little street in Copenhagen where the cozy restaurants and boats are... Anyone?

Another favourite over here (don´t know if he does much metal though) is Claes Persson at CRP Recording. Great ears and nice stuff incl Fairman EQ and Fairman compressor. Björn Engelmann is also very good.

I highly recommend Björm Engelmann. He has mastered 3 or 4 albums for me, and I have always been very happy with the results. And he's an incredibly nice guy, too.

Hi! Peter In De Betou certainly runs Tailor Maid... we have been working with him on a couple of projects now (not metal though), and I am very satisfied. He is extremely service minded and the price-to-performance ratio is exceptional. He will charge you approximately 50 euro for one song if there is no creation of a physical master involved (you recieve the song as a wav-file on a ftp server) Mind you, this is for ITB mastering, if you want an analogue chain, the desired outboards will have to be rented, and that will of course raise the price. Not sure if it would even be worth it for just one song.
