Mastering engineers needed

Hi All

I have a YouTube channel on which I post tutorials, tips, tricks and the odd free plug-in suggestion, over the last couple of years I've been asked a bunch of times to do something with a mastering focus.

Honestly it's not something I really want to do as it's not my line of work or area of expertise but I do feel like I should cover the subject. So I'm thinking of coming at it from a more oblique angle.

What I'm thinking is a few "articles", rather than tutorials, covering what it is, why one would do it, how best to prepare and common mistakes.

So I wondered if a few people from the mastering community would like to chip in ?

Ideally I'd like some audio quotes, on the above topics, from established pros that I can work up into a video.

I would also like to do an audio example of the difference between "home mastering" which I'd prepare and a pro job. Hopefully demonstrating why this isn't an area in which you should cut costs. I've got a band that will let us use their track and I'm up for being publicly humiliated by my betters.

I don't make any money from this so I can afford to pay but I have a few subscribers and I get a decent amount of weekly views, so hopefully there'd be some positive publicity and an opportunity to correct popular misconceptions.

Full credit, web links etc to anyone who'll contribute is guaranteed.

The YouTube is here YouTube - JamesAndrewMuir's Channel

And I'll crosspost it to my website as well.

James

Good news, we have our first contributor.

So you no longer need worry about being the first.

All joking aside, the more voices we have the better we can cover the topic.

Keep 'em coming ? Please ?

You should post a bulletin on yotube, asking which is the issue your subscribers would like to be covered:

Analog vs Digital
Loudness War
Convolution Reverbs
...
or some fun video as: The Hardware Valley People Dynamite vs The Softube one!

Thanks for the suggestions, in this series on mastering I definitely want to cover the loudness issue.

I'm hoping if we can get a few established mastering engineers on board the subject can be tackled organically. I don't feel that my opinions are well informed enough to represent any kind of consensus.

Though it would be equally interesting if there's no consensus !!

Thanks

James

OK we've had our second volunteer !!

Seriously keep 'em coming, the more qualified commentators we have the less they'll be of me and that can only be a good thing.

Please, please, please

Hi All

I could really do with a couple more contributors, I want to try and gather a few different voices in one place, it will be on your terms, on your own time scale and really shouldn't take long.

Thanks in advance.
