Looking for alternative to "big" mastering house

I am finishing up some mixes for a 2 CD live set for a Grammy winning artist with a 30+ year career as a recording artist. In the past we have used several of the 'big" NY and LA mastering facilities and while I don't question the value of their experience, we're are interested in going with more of an "off-broadway" approach.
The artist has said that if the release sounded the way it does now that he would be happy but we are both interested to see if a third party ME can take it to the next level for us.
In addition to the technical requirements of producing a master suitable for duplication, we're hoping that the ME can bring a fresh set of ears and techniques to the table. The music is dramatic and exciting and covers a wide gamut of styles. The end result needs to be pleasing but strong.
Our preliminary budget is between $2500 - $3500. Understanding it is a large body of work, we're most likely to want to proceed in smaller chunks of songs.
Please PM me if you are interested and would like to discuss he project in more detail.

PS Feel free to check out the link below to get an idea of what the music is like. These are board tapes but they present the music fairly well. BTW, they are all free to download and there will be more to follow.

Why not just have Doug Derryberry do it, he is after all a musical genius.
Although he's in a big mastering house I'd recommend Scott Hull, he might work in your budget, Randy Merrill also at Masterdisk is an up an comer
who is musical and works hard to please.
