Lacquer Channel in TO

hi folks,
there's a project i'll be completeing early next year and i'd like to budget for some great mastering, in Canada.

if you've used these guys, what rate scale are we looking at here, for a full length release?

thanks!

They are a top notch mastering place, you'll never go wrong sending your work over there for mastering thumbsup

For rates, I suggest you call them and ask, it's pretty easy to know.

i don't like phill's work, his work is the same as those who master $50 online. and i personally master much much better in my home studio with my digital plugz...

however i really like noa's work, i heard some great final masterings over some horrible mixes by noa...

donnu about goerge, but i know phill used to be his assistance.

I've heard some really good cuts from Phil!

Maybe the mixes were not that great in the first place?

mmm let me tell u guys why my opinion happens to be like that..

i do mastering, but i don't concider myslef as a mastering engineer. i had an album project into my studio for mastering, and the mixes were so unbalanced, u could hardly hear the lowend, it was a bad bad bad bad mixing job. i simply said i don wanna master this crap, so the artist took the mixes to noa and after couple of days he brought the mastered job. i could not believe what he did to those mixes. no one could ever claim that the quality of "the album" is bad, and the album sounded like a record. and it was out thru UNIVERSAL
......
i had some other mixing project, and the artist wanted top of the line mastering, so i suggested him to try lacquer channel, phill mastered his tracks, he came back with the mastered material, i almost matched phills mastering with sonalksis plugz, within 30 minutes. and the artist thought he wasted money by taking it to phill. same artist took a single to noa and we were both pleased with the results.
......

keep that in mind, that what i said is MY PERSONAL OPINION, and i'm not forcing my PERSONAL OPINION to anyone.
i just think my masterings sound much better than phill's by client's impressions.

I doubt that you'd do a better job, Phil is a beast when it comes to mastering. I'm listening to Danny Fernandes's song- Curious and it sounds top notch! I don't think it could have been better mastered. I prefer Phil's work over Noah's work but that's personal preference. I've had people send music to both me and Noah (Happened twice if I remember) and once they picked Noah, the other one picked me. So It's always personal preference at this point.

Bring down an ME with experience and say that you do the same kind of job but you are not an ME, that's not cool.
Let people find out, by them self.

it's one thing to hear what a project needs, and then do that, and quite another to (almost) copy the result with the tools you have.

great mastering is about first hearing what needs doing (sometimes next to nothing) and then having the tools and workflow to achieve it..

i'm not bringing anyone down, i'm just expressing my personal opinion.

chris thinks he is better than noa, and phill is great.
and i think i'm better than phill, and noa is great.

as we both agreed that it's about the personal preferences.

my mastering matched phills mastering, by not trying to master to match, i did my own quick cuts and at the first a/b step, we realized it sounds very close to phill's job. and i only used sonalksis eq, and i think sonnox limiter only. and after i did some little touch of multiband compression, and used little touch of sonnox inflator, and it soundeded good as a finished job.

and chriss don't doubt or think anything about me when u donnu me. just stay on the doubts and thoughts if your art preamp sounds as good as a neve1073

Haha you're funny. You think that in my mind, I think I am better than Noah? In no way am I better than him, the guy is a seasoned mastering engineer! He does this day in day out in a top notch facility with top notch gear, hello!

Also, I do not own an Art preamp anymore. My main preamps are the Avedis MA5 and Blue Robbie.

Anyway, you thinking you're better than Phil is a really funny joke, made me laugh a little bit.

All I can say is, keep believing in yourself!

I'm out.

Now that we have heard opinions on both sides and in between I am sure Bopkit (the original poster) has enough info.
As always I would recommend a phone call to the places you selected and if possible to attend the session, I am prettu sure you being there would help getting 100% what you are looking for with either Phil or Noa.
