Another "looking for mastering" thread.

Hi, got a project in that was recorded years ago, in pieces, on mediocre gear. My mixes for this client are coming out better than I thought they would, but there seems to be a general lack of "air" happening. Also, with the less than perfect signal path going in, there is maybe a lack of some punch going on.

I tried a couple of mixes, getting a little heavier handed with the eq, and then ultimately just went with a small boost up there, just so it wouldn't sound DULL. Going too heavy with the eq's I have, was sounding not so great to my ears.

We have used many top flight mastering houses in the past, but am looking for a more affordable option for some new clients, that just do not have the budget anymore.

Their budget is to be around $1000 for 6-7 songs on this particular project. I know, not a lot.

Is there anyone here who can do a quick test master for them, like the intro, 1st verse, and start of the chorus (30 seconds), pro bono?

Please keep in mind, if the mixes sound inadequate to you, a remix is pretty much not going to happen on this one, we are working with what we have really. We all kind of want to see what if any improvements can be made, and whether this is a lost cause or not.

If they cannot be improved in these areas, then a re-Tracking of this material will have to be in order, which one of the guys is up for, and the others are not.

We are kind of shopping around, and have already sent this request to a couple of places / ME's.

Sometimes going the budget route is not a bargain at all. I know this from experience unfortunately.

I have much respect for ME's that have put their time in, and are good at what they do. I am always amazed at what some can do.

These type clients just don't have the budget that was once common, and these pros are getting tough to afford for them.

Maybe there are some really experienced cats that want this kind of work in their down / slow times (if they have any :0)? For this band, turnaround time can be up to 8 weeks, and we will probably be finishing in Feb.

Just pm or email me, and Happy Holidays!

Thanks a million!

John

I would be happy to give it a try. If you are up for it email me and we can take it from there.
