rock album needs mastering

I just finished mixing an album for a southern rock band. It's got ten tracks and it's roughly 45 mins. in length. I think the budget will be under $1000.00, but it's probably flexible. They really wanna hear what mastering by a professional will do for the project before they fork out the cash.

BTW this band is Sourmash. They are pretty big Gov't Mule fans, too.

thanks, wagz.

well, you don't have to do all 3. one would be nice, though.

well...

leary, it's sad to say it, but this is the best mix i could get...considering my skill level.

I'm open to suggestions. The band seemed happy with the mix, but I always want to achieve better results, so i don't mind mixing it again.

please feel free to chime in.

Hey wagz, two things really stood out for me. Using the first wave file as point of reference here, the first thing is, disjointed/unrealistic panning. If you notice, the rest of the kit is okay in a relative balance to itself, but then those toms and the hi-hat are far out left. Sounds a bit strange like that. The other thing is, overall there's a fair amount of harsh distortion/clipping going on especially on the vocal track. I'm not sure if it was tracked that way (which would make it more of a problem) or if gain staging through plugins or master bus was not right, may be it was being mixed too hot. Check your PM.

ok

thanks, transending. I can reign in the toms. the vocals were tracked sorta distorted, btw. Several instruments break up, actually. I didn't track the album.

thanks, everybody! I will give these samples to the band and get back to you!
