A good mastering studio/engineer in the UK

I have a track for a client that they want professionally mastered and so have said I will look in to it for them. As I have never personally sent a track off to be mastered I am looking for a good studio/engineer in the UK.

The track is a ballad with piano, vocals and strings and I have mixed it in a way that keeps the majority of recorded dynamics. Therefore, I want to make sure that the track is not too squashed in mastering, neither myself or the client are worried about loudness with this track.

I have been looking around on the internet but I find it almost impossible to recognise a good mastering company from a bad one and I always end up just looking at what gear they have. I'm more interested in using an engineer that understands the character of the track and can just give it the professional finishing touches.

The budget is not huge and will be around £40 - £50 so if anyone has any suggestions/recommendations they would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Thank you for all your emails and interest.

The client has decided that she wants to use Abbey Roads so I guess we have this one sorted.

However, I will make sure to keep a contact of all of you who have shown an interest because I will be needing mastering in the future and I don't expect most clients will be able to afford Abbey Roads!

Thanks again
