Thread Starter | Does anyone know much about David Cheppa
I'm currently looking at mastering engineers for my album. A friend recommended David Cheppa as one of the best. I know this is completely subjective but worth looking into. Hes apparently mastered DR Dre, Clutchy Hopkins. Not sure what else. Can anyone shed any light? Cheers |

Thanks for all your info. Yeah he does appear to cut a lot of vinyl. I'm more interested in his list of credits. Found some info on allmusic.com and Discogs.com. Still the more info the better. |

Thread Starter | Good mastering engineers
Apart from David Cheppa I've been considering George Horn and Bo Cauldren at Calyx in Germany, although they have not responded to any of my emails or calls, most unprofessional. Let me tell you a little bit about my project. This is our bands 4th studio album. Musically its a mixture of funk, beats, dub, hip-hop, electronica. We get lumped into the dance genre and although we are very beat driven the album has mostly been recorded live with a few samples here and there. Anyway I want a mastering engineer that has mastered both acoustic and beat based albums. Someone who is good with dynamics yet can still achieve a decent loudness. Definitely someone who has a leaning towards analog mastering. To give you an idea of albums I think have killer mastering, heres a few favs: Shawn Lee - Strings And Things, Calexico - Feast Of Wire, Clutchy Hopkins - Walking Backwards, Omar - Sing (If You Want). Any help would be greatly appreciated. thumbsup |

| Yeah, those sites are worth a look as a starting place, but notoriously incomplete. I bet many vinyl-only credits don't even show up there. We do loads of concert video stuff that doesn't show up. Again, contact him and I'm sure he'll tell you his story.

The link above was deleted at the request of David Cheppa himself. It made him look bad, as he and I had tried to make an album cut happen, and he was terrible at communicating. So I would say go to someone else. I think it was somewhat underhanded that the post got deleted, since David posted a bunch of misrepresentations on there, to try to save face, and then, without my knowledge, the post was deleted. I was given a good explanation for why it was deleted by the forum administrators, but now no one has a record of my bad experience with Mr. Cheppa. Out of the claimed 160,000 sides he claims to have cut, I could only find credits for about 35 of them, none of which are major releases. Out of those credits I have not heard his work... so I cannot offer an opinion on the quality of it. Maybe he is good, but I know for a fact he is not good at communicating with intended clients, so caveat emptor. Cheers Last edited by noeqplease; 22nd August 2009 at 01:06 AM..
