I think that MASTERLAB MASTERINGSTUDIOS should be the most serious place in Berlin ...i'm sure you can find another mastering studio in berlin but there, you can't go wrong .

Thanks for all the responses and PMs guys.

I couldn't get an answer on the phone from Masterlab. Oops.

Calyx has been recommended to me by a few people. It and Masterlab both have the advantage of being 5 mins walk from my studio in Monumentanstrasse. Incase of problems this could be valuable.

Bo was the guy I was told to contact.

I looked at both these but on the references lists I didn't recognise anything. They both seem very well kitted out/professional though.
Calyx has various monitors. Including the Genelec 8050As I did the mixes on. ???.

I've been contemplating using the exchange in London too.
They have a alot of very experienced people with a track record of big names I recognise.

I also had really great responses from Digido (The celebrated Mr.K)
and Gateway (Adam A).

I just think local/personal contact just make more sense to me than Online at present.

Seeing that Calyx has been recommended twice, let me also put in a thumbs up for Masterlab

Hello - I actually have the same question but with different music and was wondering if anyone has suggestions for mastering in Berlin. The style of music is along the lines of dark electro, industrial. Electronic. I have been looking at Calyx because their attended sessions are easier to calculate price wise, but would consider any mastering house in the area. I just want to be able to attend the sessions. I am new to mastering so this will be a very important experience for me.

thanks ahead of time

I live in berlin too and do alot of acoustic/folk stuff... my album that I did a few months ago I first looked at getting mastered at Calyx - I've hard they are good but they were a bit too expensive for me!

So I found this place called kronier audio mastering... appantly they used to be based in london but moved out to berlin a short while ago - probably why I had never head of them before... they dont do vinyl mastering but their CD mastering looked cool, so I did my album with them about a month ago (mostly acoustic guitar and acoutic drums with vocals - think badly drawn boy) I didn't want it mastered too loud, I wanted all the punch and quality for the drums and a natural feel etc. TBH I was a bit sceptical at first because their prices are a bit low, but when it came back it sounded utterly amazing - like someone had lifted a douvet off my speakers, but in no way too bright, just "correct" if you know what I mean... before and after is a joke lol! so i would defo recommend ! Only thing I'm not sure if they do attended sessions, it says they dont on their website, but no harm in asking anyway i spose/

Anyway they gave me a contact for for man made mastering for the vinyl version but I'm probably going to wait a while untlil I shell out the big bucks for the vinyl cutting!! These guys look good too but I get too much "techno" vibes from them... does anyone know a good but affordable vnyl cutting place for more acoustic music in berlin? although I didn't attend the digital, I think Id like to attend the vinyl cutting..?

Dubs and Mastering get a from me too.

However for person passing on Manmade, I've heard non-techno cuts from Tim which were very nice. He does know his Scully well.

If the music is already mastered(acoustic rock etc) I would think most of the Berlin cutting rooms know how to transfer it correctly.

Much of the LP work(70%) I have been doing arrives mastered by another mastering house already and I transfer it with only taking the purely vinyl issues in mind and track level matching. If you are worried a cutting room will do things you do not want I would not use them!

FYI:
We mastered the album for Brutze, who started this thread.
He couldn't reach us by phone at that time as we were moving and had trouble with our phone company.
Everyone who needs a mastering job done can get in touch with us, we are happy to invite you to our new studio, serve some coffee or tea and discuss your project.
Check out our website: MASTERLAB MASTERINGSTUDIOS
If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Best regards

Hello,

I don't know Masterlabs, so i can't say anything about the quality of their work.

My favourite Mastering Studio and Engineer are Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering ( DUBPLATES & MASTERING ), who does a terriffic job on our music (minibar music, telegraph, logistic records) and a lot of other "minimal" tagged labels, for vinyl as well as CD.
Rashad also has his own studio now, you can find the contact at:

cheers
