So I plan to cut 10 12" plates on a Vestax cutter. Should I record the record if I want to make a CD/mp3 of a vinyl master or will a vinyl-type master work directly from CD? (a label I formerly worked with used to use the vinyl masters for their CDs as well)
My recommendation is Nick Watson @ Fluid Mastering - Nick and I used to work together and he is a superb engineer, in any genre. I'm sure he could do you a master suitable for both vinyl & CD, and at competitive rates.

This is a bit old but seeing it has been resurrected I'll mention Electric (Electric Mastering). Both Mandy and Guy used to work at the Exchange.

I've worked with a bunch of people who have previously used the Exchange, some of whom were mastering the exact same project again because of poor results...but then they do have a good reputation for vinyl as Narcoman says above from his experience...Narcoman whoever you are! Their impressive client list obviously speaks for itself and they seem to have garnered some kind of magical vinyl cutting status over the years, when there are several other engineers in London alone who can cut a great 12", 7", LP etc etc etc. As far as choices for cutting in London, I'd steer clear of the 2 or 3 places that offer cheap rates, you get what you pay for. Exchange are definitely one of the better places, also + 1 for Streaky above who's cut his share of 45s!

Got the test pressing back this weekend from Pallas. What can I say but I am totally floored once again by how well the mastering came out by The Exchange and Nilz.

What ever happens when he get's that on the wax is just magic, pure and simple. Even the 24-96KHz backups do not do his work justice.

Again I highly recommend them.

(807) 002 coming soon.

Is there any chance to pay less money to go to the studio for lacquers instead of letting the plant do it?
(although, sure there is a difference in sound job).

Could I send to a studio my material and get lacquers to go the plant... for 100 copies or so?
Or for such quantity, should I just let the plant do the cutting thing?

@The Exchage i had the pleasure to cut vinyl with both nilesh and simon. Both were great, although i atempted to work with nilesh more since he was able to make gold out of cr*p, and back then we had a lot of artists with small noisy studios recording on portable dat's etc. ...

As for D&M, i think Rashad still works there, he's our ME of choice, be it vinyl or CD - the results are just ALWAYS great!
But Rashad also slowly starts to run his own studio now: audio//anwendungen .::. Studio .::. CLUNK
