TOP Mastering Studios YOU PERSONALLY know are good: List them here!

I usually do my own mastering, but Im flirting with the idea of testing an "outside" mastering studio..
If they are available for work where I can send the tracks/projects or the end file over the internet - that would be great.

Im looking for GOOD ONES.. The cheaper they are while keeping a high quality service the better - but dont pay attention to that: just list those you feel are really good in this thread!

Ps. Not sure it matters, but the main music style is dance music, like electro, techno, trance. But LIST all studios working with all kinds of music!

THANKS!

Personally? Bernie Grundman Mastering.(L.A.) He's got great ears no matter the genre, he'll cost $350 an hour. Pricey, but he's the best that I've had personal experience with. I imagine you can't go wrong with Sterling NYC, Bob Ludwig (Portland), or Eddie Schreyer (L.A.)
Then there's that whole other, very good and competent arena of the $75/hr-$175/hr
ME's that many people here at GS have had good personal experience with, I'll let them chime in.....PS, there are also quite a few ME's here at GS............good luck..

I had nothing but good experiences with Jim DeMain at Yes Master in Nashville. Affordable and top-notch.

well.. you got me there.. ;-)

With personally I mean: you know first hand or with someone you work with that the mastering studio is a GOOD one.

you dont have to know the studio "personally" as long as you have had some sort of "close encounter" with them that resulted in some great mastering.. ;-)

Gavin Lurssen at Lurssen Mastering. He was the big dog at The Mastering Lab for a long time, and now has his own place. Incredible mastering, and probably one of the coolest people in the business.

Highly, highly recommended.

I've used Brad Blackwood for maybe five projects on the recommendation of someone here, and been real happy every time.

Good guy.

I've been using Jay Frigoletto over at Master Suite for mastering for several years now. He's very knowledgeable and honest enough to tell me when my mixes, um... 'need improvement' if I ask him, and does a phenomenal job in general.

Same here; we've used Jay for years and he always does a great job on any style recording we throw at him.

++++++++++++3

I mostly use Eddy Schreyer (Oasis Mastering), Gene Grimaldi (Oasis Mastering), Brian "Big Bass" Gardner (Bernie Grundman), Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman), and Brad Blackwood (Euphonic Masters). I've done shootouts and Brad has edged some of them out quite frequently. It's unfortunate he's not local for me because a lot of my clients like to attend sessions. If he was, I'd use him WAY more often. The plus side is that he doesn't have the ridiculous "big city" overhead, and can make projects work for me that would have been impossible with the guys at some of the other places, and he's totally on top of the FTP thing. Nothing but high praises AND he knows his beer!

if you are in NC you have to check out brent lambert at "the kitchen" in chapel hill. he has always done a stellar job for me in the past.

also newer to the game but top notch would be jeff carroll at "bluefield" mastering in raleigh. check him out!

can't go wrong either way.
