Thread Starter | Transferring 2" multi-tracks to digital in NYC
I'm looking for some suggestions for someone/studio to handle the cost-effective transfer of many (maybe as many as two dozen) 2" multitrack masters (30 ips) to 24-bit 96 digital in the New York area. This sort of project could be done bit by bit (no pun intended) over time, on a studio's down time (or unbooked hours, in any case.) The tapes date from 1986 to 1995, and have tones, specs, and track sheets. I know this is not strictly a mastering query, but this forum seem appropriate. I'm aware of Sonicraft, but for this particular self-financed, archival project, they are out of my price range. I also have a few 1/2" CD (2-track) masters that I would like transferred as well. Thus, I'm looking for suggestions.

I'll do the 1/2" trasnfers if you'd like but Sonicraft for 2" is the way to go. No one has both great repro analog and also conversion anywhere near that quality for less money. I just dont think it will work out. If you're not in a hurry you can pay Steve @ Sonicraft over time ... support your local engineer! Your tapes are safe for a long time if you take care of them.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and/or suggestions and/or contacted me directly. I have delivered 35 reels of 2" and 41 reels of 1/4" and 1/2" to Dubway Studios (New York) who will be doing the transfer to Pro Tools (and baking as necessary).
