Mastering Shootout

I don't know if this has been done before or not, if it has, please direct me to where i can find info on the results.

I would LOVE to have a song submitted to a dozen or so different places and have them each master the song, then compare the mastering - evaluate distortion, phasing, noise, overall feelings on the song, etc.

Has anything like this been attempted? Anyone want to try arranging such a thing? Ideally, it would be the most scientific if the mastering facilities did not know about the shootout, as they wouldn't be able to put in extra hours doing things that they may not normally do in order to get a more favorable review.

This exact idea has been done about 14 times already on Brad Blackwood's forum at http://recforums.prosound.com under the project names "WOMP" (aka Web Only Mastering Project), "WIMP" & the current running series "WUMP" that just finished its 10th song.

You might want to register there and let people know of the availabilty of your mix(es) for the next WUMP XI which will probably happen in March.

Best regards,
Steve Berson
