Which ME suits this music?

Which ME suits this music?

The client wants ‘fresh ears’ to master this album.

It has been low budget so it’s not likely the mix will be changed..

however there is budget for good mastering.
Happy with ftp to anywhere in the world.

This sample has had comp, eq, limit etc so that we have a better idea of how the mix holds up under subsequent necessary process, because the raw mix is extremely dynamic

The target is more towards sitting next to mainstream, but bound by the limits of the material, ie sparse arrangement, dynamics, often in an acoustic style that requires a natural sound. But this is not jazz so no purist treatment as you can hear from the clip

Who is the ME that understands this music? Suggestions? Takers?

Ian,
maybe you could make a link to the unlimited full res file available so that all the M.E.s that want to give it a go here can.

If you can put up a proper source file, I know I would be happy to show you how I think the track ought to be done. That's the point of this 'where to' forum, to familiarize people with what's out there.

If you really want to liven things up, demand that people's clips be posted publically ;) you're more likely to get a lot of private messages with attached files, a behavior I think I've learned from. Unless there's some kind of rule that says 'if you're pimping your work to people here you have to show it in the thread so the lurkers can learn what's out there too', it's actually a handicap to publicise your 'take' on a mastering in a shootout when others are not, because it can be seen as a bar to clear.

That said, good luck, and enjoy the deluge of files! (Those of us who can work very quick and use broadband are often willing to spend a few minutes giving you a snapshot of our wares)

Hi

I have the full res file available if you pm me.
It has taken a while to get to work to retrieve it, cos it's summer holidays here in New Zealand!

You could try this

we converted yr LM1.mp3 file to wav format and ran it through ROCKSTER Mastering Processor on the setting PL+-. seems to do the job.

then we converted the processed output file PL+-.wav back to mp3, in order to post it here given the 5mb size limit.

you can process yr original .wav file yrself, for best quality. choose your own ROCKSTER settings. 15 second trial is free:

http:www.BornToRock.com/rockster.htm

pls note, though the name of the program is ROCKSTER, the settings are variable so it works for all kinds of music, including soft pop like this.

you may prefer the setting PL0-, or even PL-- (less drive than PL+-). you can experiment on the dry file with the free download of ROCKSTER, and see.

conclusion

Hi

Thanks for everyone contributing to this project.
The client did not like the mixes so its all been scraped.
So that’s the end of it, sorry no one picked up the job.

I found the mastering process fascinating, hearing the variety of interpretations offered.
I know that you would adapt your work to follow more direction, but even so you basically submitted what you thought was best.

So while the result is subjective and only needs to be ‘right’ for the client, there is a variety of perspectives on the ‘best’ sound.

So I have this link (sorry it’s a yousendit, tell me if it doesn’t work), so if you are interested you can hear these..
Only mp3, uncompressed if you ask for it.

Can you hear which ones use the expensive analogue gear or which are plugs?
Personally I think there is nothing in it, the choice of settings has far more impact.
