How much do I gain from mastering ???

Hi

I have just recorded and mixed an album for my band. Since there is no label behind us we have to pay everything by ourselfs, which is no problem, but....

I donīt know how much there is to improve on the recording and how much mastering would make it sound better/bigger/thicker and more together !??!

Is there a website were I can listen to some demos to get a general idea or would it be possible to get a Half mastered song from a mastering studio to hear the difference ??

Anybody here want to give it a shot ??

Cheers

I am sure most MEs here would be happy to do a "test master" for you as it has happened in the past.

As far as the "how much is there to improve" it depends and I don't hink there will be a straighforward answer.

Mastering is not an ethereal good as many still (want) to believe. We can't make miracles happen and yes it depends on the source material, but the objectivity and the improvements when called for are certainly very real and tangible benefits.

I am moving this to the Test forum.......

Sorry, didnīt know I should post here. Thanks

Well, we have 11 songs which we want to master. But as I said before, itīs hard to put up with maybe 150-200€ a song if you donīt know there will be a good amount of "Kickass" added to the tracks

So, who here would be happy to help a heavy Rock/metal band out....

You have PM's turned off in your options...you may want to enable them, since many people would rather PM you regarding your question.

Dear Nowinner (I think you should change your handle, by the way!). You can write to us at the digido.com website for a demonstration CD of before/after mastering.

is it breaking the rules of this "where to go for mastering" forum to write this in the forum rather than to PM the writer?

If you were asking me, Bob...no. I just assumed some people may be more comfortable doing it that way.
