Absolutely the best for smooth screen capture (for demos and tutorials) is Camtasia. The flexibility after recording is great. You can zoom and pan the field of view, add mouse highlights, add camera video and audio. It's pricey($300), but if you need something that can handle multiple screens with excellent flexibility, it's great. I know of only the Windows version, though. I haven't tried the Mac version.

i'll have to check out Camtasia. I haven't had any issues with PAvtube, but I always like a new tool.

I've used screenflow and camtasia, and I like screenflow slightly better. I think they both have demos... honestly they have a different feature set as well, so it would be worth doing that evaluation yourself if you have time.

Little known feature. Vlc media player that is a favorite of mine has the ability to record screen captures. I have not tried but apparently it's better then most paid software. Best of all vlc is open sourced. You can even stream audio video content with the software and it plays virtually all media

i have been using screenflow for a while and its great for video purposes but shame on soundcard drivers incompatibility. its ok when you use either built in or apogee but using something else might give you trouble. i own fireface 400 and finally i have managed to work it out, i have to use soundflower in order to record audio from this card but the workflow is not the smoothest one.
