| Gear maniac | 1/4" TRS Balanced vs Unbalanced vs Stereo
I'm converting my XLR cables to 1/4" for my 002r outs and i dont understand the "TRS Balanced vs Unbalanced" thing. How do you know which one is better for which application? What are the pros vs cons for each one? Is there any additional knowledge that I should have about these connectors? I apologize of these are boob questions I just wanna make sure I accurately setup my room.

For a line level signal which is what you have going out of the 002 you want TRS.

I think the 002r works balanced/unbalanced, so it will depend on your outboard. If it is balanced you use trs, if not ts. Unbalanced is more common with cheaper gear, like the fmr rnc for example. In a situation where you use short cables there is usually no problem with unbalanced connections.

I was having a similar situation... to run out of my motu 2408 i used a line transgformer to convert it from balanced to unbalanced. They sell ones that go from xlr to 1/4", its like 20 bucks for one at GC Sent from my DROID Pro using Gearslutz.com |
