Thread Starter | Treatment and treats!
Hi all i thought i should stick my first post here and introduce myself along with me questions! I just moved into a new place for uni (studying music production). Anyway below are some pictures of the room i'm in. (with my groovy 1980's carpet) My desk ![]() Another view for scale (one of my house mates is using the corner for his computer for a week or so) ![]() the left hand wall from the door, i can see this being a big issue with reflections. ![]() and the view from the door ![]() So thats the room, in total ive got about 12 feet of floor space to work with against the window wall. Im aware i'm going to need a bigger desk (any pointers as to cheap ones would be awesome) But i may just build one too. For gear im using: Imac 27 inch Core i5 with 8GB of RAM M-audio keystudio (upgrading to an axiom pro) Korg padKONTROL (caps needed) Alesis i02 express (upgrading to a focusrite sapphire pro 40) Pair of Tannoy Reveal 302a's my DAW is logic 9 and i have Sibelius 6 along with Reason 5. My question is what ideally should i buy next? I record everything i can but without my own mic's this is proving tiresome as trips to uni to borrow mic's take up precious time. My budget for mic's is totally open but i don't want to invest more than £1000 this year. I'm also looking for a controller interface for logic and this has been another issue for me. I want something that not only functions well but looks the part too. (sadly clients at the uni level tend to expect even a bedroom studio to look the job) ideally i dont want to spend more than £2000 on a controller. And last but not least i need to treat my bedroom acoustically i know how its done but any suggestions on what to do about the sliding wardrobes (i cannot remove them) are welcome. Any and all suggestions or questions are welcome. -spy p.s. forgive me if i have posted this in the wrong section! |

It looks like you have separate laptop going on. I would probably actually take advantage of that. Most schools have practice rooms that you can use as a booth. They are usually soundproof, as well as being treated. At worst, you probably have treated practice rooms available to you somewhere. I would get a portable setup going on that only for tracking. Just an interface, a nice pre if you need, and the mic of your choice that will be pretty good all around. Maybe two mics that are pretty good for everything you need, but different "flavors", just to cover your bases. Assuming you have access to a decent room for tracking, do your recording there. Then take it back to your dorm room to mix. Hopefully, you can get in a better room for verifying your mixes through some of your classes. Then you can cover everything without a really extensive setup in a small dorm room. That's what I would do myself. |
