Thread Starter | Les Paul Plain top vs. 1956 reissue?
I plan on purchasing an Epiphone Les Paul soon and right now I'm very interested in the Les Paul Standard plain top and the 1956 goldtop reissue. However, I'm not certain about the differences between the two guitars. The price differences is minimal (about $50). From what I can tell, the most apparent difference are the Alnico Humbuckers vs the P90 pickups. Could someone care to explain the differences between these two types of pick ups? Furthermore, if anyone owns one or both of these guitars please feel free to give some input on your opinion of them. I would love to hear some encouraging words before I make the big purchase. |

I would go with an Agile from rondomusic.com. Check out the AL-3000 goldtop, it is way nicer than an epi and less expensive. I purchased one and it was one of the first inexpensive guitars that I bought that I immediately didn't gut and replace all pickups and electronics. To answer your question about the epi, the p90s are single coil pickups. A little noisier, but warmer IMO. |
