Monitoring in an irregular room.

Hi everyone (anyone?),

This is my first post on what has been a very helpful site for me.

The question I have (which I can't find an answer to in any of the threads) is about my monitoring set-up in an irregular room (for mixing). I'm trying to figure out the best place to set up my Dynaudio BM6As. Here are some deets about my room:

The room is rectangular, approx 10'x17'. One of the long walls slopes in starting about 3.5' up the wall (like in an attic) and also has a dormer/window in the middle of it (recessed into the wall a couple feet deep from the inside and about 5.5' wide). One of the short walls has a 5" deep protrusion (approx 3' wide, relating to the chimney I assume) running up the whole wall. The ceiling (which is approx 8.5') has a very slight grade to it. So nothing is exactly parallel and no two walls are exactly the same.

Question: Should I be mixing against the long wall with the speakers facing the sloped/dormered wall for the closest chance at symmetrical side walls (better imaging)? Or should I be mixing against a short wall with the monitors pointing down the length of the room to avoid low end problems, even though one side wall is vertical and the other is sloped?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

here's a photo

I'm adding a photo. Excuse the clutter as I'm trying to figure all this out. I'm currently mixing in the "cubby" created by the dormer which I realize is bad news. This photo is facing down the length of the room towards one of the short (10') walls with a vertical wall to the left and a sloped wall and dormer cubby to the right.

Thoughts?

Need more pics man. I think your monitoring setup sounds heavy bass and thats not good.

If the left side of a room is symetrical I personally would switch amp cabinet with monitoring one. Would sound completely different for both systems. Amps would be heavy bass and louder if there is the same corner near right speaker. And monitors would be more open and neutral sounding.

Just my 2 cents
