Songwriter/Producer Credit

Hey Everyone,
I'm working with a new producer for one of my songs "Don't Leave." Don't Leave by JoshHowatt on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
Instead of working out something in the way of compensation up front, he brought up the idea of sharing the rights. What is the industry standard? I basically wrote the song (lyrics, melody, all music instrumentation, produced in my home studio) then sent to him for mixing, adding flourishes, cleaning up, etc. He's also going back and using different instrumentation on certain parts. I'd say thus far he's spent about 6 hours time on it, and plans to keep going till it's prefect. What would be a fair share of rights for such work? I would also really like to continue working with this person going forward on all my songs, being that he has done an absolutely fantastic job.
Best,
Josh

The best thing to do is make sure you're both on the same page. Especially if you want to keep working with him. Good communication is always win win. I would just pay him for his services, but that's up to you.

There is no industry standard. It is what ever you negotiate. The important thing is to be very clear and up front about it and put it in writing.

If nothing ever happens with the song, the mixer guy will have gotten the raw end of the deal, if the song takes off and becomes a hit or gets tons of film placements, etc you may have given up tens of thousands of dollars in income in exchange for a few hundred dollars worth of mix work.
