Thread Starter | New Business Model For Studios and Record Labels
Hello all. I would like any input from anyone who would care to contribute on the subject of the new business model for studios and record companies. With the proliferation of file sharing and the decline in recording budgets where do you see the industry headed. Do you believe as I do that eventually recorded music will be offered for free to the public and how do you see this affecting record companies and those of us(engineers, producers, and artists) that make our living recording and distributing music. I am also interested to hear from artists and music consumers concerning what services and practices would they like to see from the studios and or record company of tomorrow. I am lucky enough to be involved with a studio and record labels run by forward thinking individuals and we are currently holding meetings on the future of the industry and how we can perpetuate our ability to not only continue to bring in revenue but how we can also continue to offer quality service to our artists and offer a quality product to the consumer. Any and all comments are appreciated Scott Barnett Engineer-Crossroads Studios(Crossroads Entertainment and Marketing) Freelance Engineer/Producer |

if its free who is going to bother doing it except terrible bad teen age garage bands. prices will keep coming down. but never to free. that will impact the current old traditional aspects even more like currently happening. dont care about record companies. will be my own if i got into that aspect of music. dont care about studios. would have my own if i got into area that too. where things are headed is to more and more very small DIY recording production companies with less and less quality, most of which would be terrible bad. a few larger existing ones will downsize to midsize and still put out a little music of tolerable quality. big studios/labels will mostly disappear although one or two may hang in there because their owners use them as part of a bigger marketing scheme. | |
