Insurance AND Security?

I sense that this has to be a dumb question... But I have yet to come up with a really good reason to spend money on a security alarm/service since I'm already spending a bunch on blanket coverage for my studio and all it's contents.

Any insight? Horror stories?

discount on teh insurance
it will pay for itself

no delays or hassles getting set up again if the stuff is stolen

dont get pennies on the dollar from the insurance company cause you had to make a claim for stolen gear

Yes. Get it.

and, a good installer will place video cameras that will allow you to "watch" your gear from your iPhone or Android. And catch the face of the robbers. Esy to prove a claim!

AND... you will know about power outages, which is, sadly, a common occurrence these days.

Our new head of security. Although just 18 months old, he heads up a security staff of three.

Guard dogs may sound cool but if your agent or insurance company find out that you own them for that purpose you may get dropped. So be careful, granted its wrong for someone to steal from your studio but if your dog attacks in that process that thief can still sue...

Is that comment made because you don't have insurance or because you don't think studio insurance is beneficial?

I am curious to hear from studio owners who have actually had to make insurance claims due to theft or damage - to know if their insurance company made it right.

I had to claim on my insurance at the begining of the summer.
it was partly my fault i got caught skipping a train fare and whilst dealing with the ticket guy I left my bag on the train which had my U87 in it as i had finished up doing some vocals my insurance sorted it in a swift and timely manor and my premiums didnt go threw the roof which was a bonus

lesson learned always pay for train tickets
