Studio internship interview advice

Hey GS, I have an interview at an awesome studio in LA today for an internship. The opportunity is huge and I want to slam dunk the interview. I'm not a student or graduate or a typical intern (I presume) I'm a 27 yr old edm producer with only a little commercial studio experience (that is, I work from my home studio).

Can anyone give me some advice to help prepare? Anything I should read up on before the interview? Anything that will put me at an advantage over the recording school applicants? Any words of wisdom?

Thanks!

be humble. knowing your shit is always a good thing but make sure you really know it if you're gonna answer them on tech questions and only answer specifically what is asked in regards to recording knowledge, one spoof and they'll see right thru it. the last person they want to hire is someone who's gonna tell them whats what. there is no harm in not knowing something, it actually shows good self awareness to admit it.

listen to everything they say. take it in. pause for a split second to gather your thoughts before you answer. listening to the minor details is a huge part of an interns job, if you cant do it properly in an interview then they wont hire you.

use good grammer, dont use slang. you are applying for a job in a professional establishment, treat it as such.

make them aware that you want to learn and that you're a self learner. if they think you can go about their job without needing your hand held, then there's more chance of getting hired.

NEVER ask about clients. this is ultra important. if you do you could end up coming across as a fan boy and thats a no no. while we all get excited about working with certain people, the trick is to remain professional and not show it. save your excitment for the job at hand.

look respectable but not over the top. you're not going for an accounts job!

be clean. if you get the job, they're gonna have to share air with you.

be friendly and positive.

dont diss ex-employers or clients. even if they ask you for some problems you've encountered before just spin your answer in a way that doesnt shine a bad light on anyone.

think about what they're asking you before answering.

if they ask you about day to day duties in the studio, do not answer by telling them how good you are with your compressors. they don't.even.care.

The whole point of internships is learning. nobody expects you to be the inventor of pro tools. they just want you to be keen to learn, keen to help, and enjoyable to have in the studio; and they will make sure you know everything you need to know.

Thus, if you walk in there thinking you're one of them already, have no interest in sweeping the floor, stink of BO and have no social skills, you will last less time than a **** in a synagogue.
