What are young LA area engineers charging per day/project?

Rates for running a full session and doing a mix.

Not including studio costs.

This has been asked before on this forum but how about a Summer 2011 update.

Anything from nothing to thousands I'd guess. What a weird question. Surely depends on experience, competency, contacts and clients?

I'd guess for the "young" it goes from zero up to lunch, dinner and gas money paid.

For pro's doing it a couple decades with good clientele (NOT bands making their own record), it's around $500 to a couple thousand a day, with most falling in the $650-1k range I'd guess. That takes a decade or two to work up to though.....

For me, studio time at my place is free and I generally charge in the above ranges for my personal time, no matter if I'm working here, at Capitol or at a composer's personal studio.....

I am 32 moved to LA just 2 years ago and it has been very tough for me. I think I'm starting to finally get some work going but always have a very diy ethic when charging.
I charge 200 a song, 40 an hour or 250 a day depending on the band's budget.
Thats pretty low for the typical LA "standards"
