Looking for a cheap studio with SSL in London

Hi

I'm looking for a studio with an SSL analogue (4000 or similar) in London or nearby that is fairly cheap where I can go and mix my music. requirements are 24 channels from computer to the desk and 2 multifx (if possible) kind of lexicon or similar.

I'm engineer myself so I will no need an engineer.

Anyone willing to give me an offer for 6/8 hours sessions?
Also I would you be interested if I bring customers and I would work as freelancer engineer?

Thanks

Ask psycho_monkey on here. He works for Miloco and they have The Square studio which has a lovely ex-Olympic SSL4000 in front of big ATC SCM-series monitors, plus all the normal PT|HD and outboard (and a good live room too with nice acoustics and interesting instruments); all of which they rent out at a pretty attractive price point.

I'm sure he'd welcome the work as an assistant and he knows the inner workings of SSLs very well so could help you with anything on the console. Miloco don't have a habit of letting you in the studio on your own, though.

That'd be my first port of call anyway.

Thank you guys

No it doesn't have to be london althoughthe band I'm working on is from london and would be easier and cheaper to travel from there. but if price is right I'll be willing to travel more

about "the square" thank you I'll check it.

Any other studio? doesn't have to be top studio, actually the less the better, I'm looking for something really cheap as long as it has some SSL, pro tools/logic and two lexicon or similar (is it too much?

Why the huge desire for SSL?

Opening up to any brand of high end console means you can use the Miloco down time (booking the day before) at 50% of the price. All the rooms have decent consoles, generally SSL or Neve...

Miloco also has the Engine Room which is quite often on their downtime deals which has a lovely big ex-Olympic SSL4056 in it, and probably my favourite monitoring in London.

They advertise it as their flagship room and if you get it on downtime, it can be had for £250+VAT a day... which ain't bad.

I'm not sure he would...

Never worked there but this place is offering a week for a grand on gumtree: SUNRISE-STUDIO.CO.UK

http://www.artillerystudios.co.uk/ - may also be available cheap but not sure...

The Premises and Snap! Studios have cheap(ish) AWS900 rooms.

The problem with all those seems to be a lack of monitoring, none of them have Mains, only nearfields.

The Bridge has Boxer mains and is only £350/day, that wins it for me...

Why the SSL?

My University Studios has PMCs and an Audient Desk...

You won't get an SSL on the cheap. I guarantee you that.

What?

I just asked what gave you that impression.

I can't see anywhere where he mentioned what his definition of 'cheap' was.

All scalable depending on what you need, we also have accomodation for very reasonable rates.

Fair enough - I thought in these times you'd be taking anything that has money in it!

I'm actually more busy than I've ever been before - and fortunately, that doesn't include assisting!

well i'm glad it's good. I got fed up with it and I hang truss out of people's ceilings for lots of money. There are some sound systems waiting on the floor to get hung on the truss so it kinda counts.

Holy Crap! I thought the garage studios were the ones driving the price down for the bigger places. An SSL room in london for under US$600 per day? How could anyone possibly compete with that?

More power to you in finishing your project!
