I always thought until we are making decent money consistently and over a long period of time doing the thing in question we are
all amateurs by definition (not that there's anything wrong with that - unless we are trying to convince people otherwise).
You (I mean anyone) may indeed have
specialized knowledge and skills (eg can play sax really well, get a killer drum sound or totally rock live) but that doesn't make you (or anyone) a 'professional' - and certainly not in something you have never even attempted, let alone succeeded in yet.
That's what's so great about music - there's always new stuff to learn (unlike stacking shelves).
And there's nothing wrong (I should know!) with admitting you don't really have a clue what you are doing regarding something which is new territory for you .... and if it wasn't new territory you wouldn't be here asking questions......... you'd be making money (as a professional whatever it is you are trying to be).
....... OK so now I realise this is an old thread that's been resurrected. Ho hum
