need some advice on payment issues

I'd appreciate some advice on this if anyone has any. Here's the issue:

For years I have always done a pay as you go kind of thing. Payment is due at the end of each session. I don't know what my thinking was at the time but recently I booked a band that said their "distributor" was going to pay for the recording (never mind that it is not a distributor's job to do this) after the recording is done. I agree but I say that I need to contact their "distributor" so he is in agreement and no rough or final mixes leave the computer until I am finally paid. It takes me forever to get the distributor's email address. We start recording. Once I get a hold of this distributor that is paying he tells me the band is covering 1/3 of the cost.

The band hasn't said a word about this and I feel they are unethical for doing so.

We have more dates booked.

What would you do? Pause recording until the 1/3 payment is met by the band?

Did you took a deposit? Did you signed an agreement? If not then tell the band what the distributor said and hope that you will get you money

exactly

give them a chance to come good on their bit, but be firm and see if it was a genuine misunderstanding or their are trying to be clever, dont record anything else until you get some money as a gesture of goodwill or if you find they are trying to con then revert to your normal pay on the day and if they cant do it then tough.
