Recording Career

So I am pretty new to this I guess you could say, I've been recording small bands and stuff like that for the better part of 2 years. Right now I have a pretty small set up, I'm still kind of in the red financially, and my recordings are decent-mediocre. I see some of these producers/engineers with all these Protools HD setups, expensive microphones, beautiful facilities etc. We all know what I'm talking about and my question is how do we get there? So if you don't mind, tell me a little about yourself, when you started recording and how you got to where you are. All replies are welcomed! :]
P.S. Examples of work is awesome too! Show off your best!

I started recording about 3-4 years ago with a little crappy computer mic and windows recorder. It was a shabby set up, but by myself i figured out how to some pretty decent recordings (considering I was 14, and had no experience!) And a year or so later, I bought my first interface, and the rest is history. I've spent everyday since then thinking about ways how to improve my sound, thinking of new things and just opening my eyes to the different types of production. I've recorded a few decently big bands from the area (Surrender The Dance Floor, To Write A Riot, Forsaken The Sky, and Fight To Win.) I just graduated High School and I'm going to continue to master my craft, but I am completely self trained, and this site has been a great guide. As a community, I feel very accepted to be able to walk among you all. I only hope that one day I will have earned your respect as an engineer, producer, and a person.
Cheers!
-Kyle

Nice recording too - lovely vibe. Can you sing?

Like me though, you are pushing the beat on the guitar a little.

And the whole thing (judging by the waveform on the site AND the sound) is a wee bit squashed.

I do this too....

Couldn't help picking up on the last bit......I'd say NEVER make a connection between any of this sound lark we all love and fiend over and being respected as a nice person!! And keep enjoying the sound lark.

I have a pretty cool studio these days, but not a super high end place. It took me over 20 years to put it together.

I never discourage anyone trying to get into record professionally, but you should have no delusions about it being a sane or easy choice. Its insanely tough to establish a real career in music recording these days.

(I don't think I could do it again. For sure it would be seriously harder....)

(I REALLY don't think I could do it again. I know for sure I would not follow the same road. I'd be doing it very different.)
