Thread Starter | Social Networking site for sound arts
Hi, I have an idea for a social networking site that would connect sound artists around the world.. what I would like is to sound this idea out and see what people think. Please jump in if you have any ideas or feedback, and if you would sign up! Oh no! I can hear some of you say.. 'Another twitter, facebook, myspace, MI7 etc etc..' Well, there are a few reasons why this site may be a.) different and b.) useful! Let me give some background.. I just graduated from a Sonic Arts course in London where my experience of online facilities and communication convinced me that a resource such as this could be incredibly useful for:
My focus for now is on sound art in particular, partly because I want to further my academic research, connect with artists around the world, and also to investigate the potential for sound art experienced outside galleries, which often curate badly or insufficiently this type of work. GS is an amazing resource and I am a huge fan. I realize sound art may not be everyone's bag here and this is a more music and recording-oriented forum so hopefully some of you out there will get where I'm going with this.. Please feel free to comment! ----------------- Yan White: Sound |

"live networked performance" sounds interesting and I haven't followed the advances on that area for some time, but I assume the sync and latency issues are still around. All the other points you mention already exist in disparate sources I guess. Would there be a benefit in unifying it? Yes but all the other places wouldn't cease to exist. Having a place to showcase your stuff and especially if that does land you some sort of gig or job then that would be great. A minimal design approach would also make a difference from those overcluttered myspace and whatnot pages that we see. Still, an overabundance of content is bound to settle in |
