Big studios and keeping hold of your gear

Hi, I was wondering what peoples thought s were about keeping hold of gear when bands bring a lot of equipment.

we have all our cables mics and pedals marked but at the end of a long session, late in the day and when maybe just the assistant and the band are packing down it can be easy for the band to, completely accidently, take something that is not theirs. We are forever sending out emails along the lines of 'did you pick up a..' 'did you end up with..'

not with important stuff like mics but the little things that slowly dissappear like cables and guitar pedals. A lot of this stuff goes straight to the band tour truck and they don't see it again until months later when they are on stage, by which time they have forgotten the email and aren't about to say 'hey I haven't seen this cable before..' when they are about to do a big gig!

How do people deal with this? Its not a big worry but in hard financial times like these its annoying to have to shell out for a load more xlr's every 6 months!

We have the opposite problem, people keep leaving stuff behind. Hardly a week goes by where I do not have to post some wall-wart or cable off to somebody. Someone even managed to leave an entire bass stack with amp behind and only realised it three months later.

stock sheet on console. stock count before band comes in and before they leave. each cable taken out of cable room gets marked down, same for mics, stands etc
