A way to get ANY music ridiculously cheap...and totally legal

This almost takes a little steam out of the whole Pirate Bay thread explosion. I buy my music. But I pay very little money for it, and it's totally legal, and totally obvious if you look close.

Amazon.com

That's right, I'm sure you've all heard of it, they sell tons of stuff, including mp3 downloads at regular prices. Why anyone pays this is beyond me. Look at the USED CDs!

Seriously, Amazon has like everything I've ever looked up. The seller base is so massive that they have used CDs by the crateload, and the download market has driven the prices down to nothing. If a CD has been out for at least a little while, you can find a used copy for anywhere from $1 -$4. And shipping is usually really cheap.

Then when you get the CD, rip it to your music collection, and voile', ultra-cheap digital music, totally legal.

I love your attitude.
Sadly, downloaders would point to the cost, actually shipping can be expensive between countries, plus the lack of instant gratification.
Also, I have several old CD's that wont play anymore.
They aren't that indestructible.
Anyway, yeah it's a decent option, especially for CD's that are no longer available.

Confused...no artist/songwriter/publisher/anyone is getting paid for the sale of a used cd, are they?

No real point in going back to this is there?

I mean for starters the CD was originally purchased. Hooray!
Secondly, the used CD is purchased singularly, not duplicated millions of times and distributed to potential customers free.
No confusion is needed.

There's a great record store here that sells used CDs. I buy them all the time, the stock is constantly changing.

Amazon has actually saved me a few times as well. I had several albums in the past that I'd lost track of (before my computer/iTunes days), and I found them used on Amazon.

Chris is right, I don't feel too bad, because if it's there, it means it was purchased at one time or another. Everybody got their due.....thumbsup

I think you'll find that a large number of the CD's on the second-hand market via Amazon and eBay are actually promo copies, so the artist/etc./ would NOT have been paid in the first place ....

It's not so much of an issue on Amazon, although there is someone who runs a well known PR company who sells promos on there (and eBay too). Bit of a cheek, really.

When you buy used CDs, the money goes (possibly indirectly) to people who buy new CDs. If nobody buys their used CDs, they can't buy as much either. And if they couldn't sell their stuff, maybe they'd buy more cautiously.

So, thumbsup for used CD market from me.

Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse.

with one caveat..... if you then sell the CD whilst keeping the ripped copy you are again breaking the law. You may only have backups whilst you OWN the licensed copy - ie the CD.
