| Gear Head | Tell us about your experiences
studio jobs seems to be getting rarer and rarer nowadays, i was wondering how most people get started out. well most were go the usual way i started up as an intern. but what about producers? how do you first make the first move sourcing for your first ad firm? a good wholesome portfiolio? what i meant really was how do i get people to notice me? even if i am not working in a recording studio can i still find jobs related to music such as scoring for films , writing jingles... |

You work. You do work for free or you do work on the cheap, or you do our own stuff that sounds different enough and interesting enough that a potential client recognizes your abilities and hires you for a decent gig. You kick ass on that gig and bigger and better gigs come from it. Eventually the critical mass of your successful snowball rolls downhill and you end up with people trying to jump on your coat tails to make themselves successful. It's especially true with ad agencies who are by nature better at buying broadcast ad time than producing music or video. Most good agencies have a good graphics department, but have no idea how to craft a :30 or :60 radio spot ( much less a TV campaign). When their clients demand broadcast, their agencies typically have to go out-of-house. That's a good place to drop you worm. Nibbles turn to bites and if you have a good demo reel the work will come.
