The "best" insulation depends how thick you are planning to make the panels and what frequency range you are trying to target?

However, for a 100mm thick panel RW3 will be fine, apart from if using as a cloud where you will need a lightweight frame to prevent it sagging.

If the panel is made in a wooden frame correctly it will not sag or flop. I also agree with the above but don't over think it. The point is to make them thick enough and straddle corners to maximize the effect.

Anything between 40/50 kg-m3 at 4inches will do it.
I'd be carefull with RW3 becuz it has 60 kg-m3 so it's a whole lot denser.

High density and high thickness doesn't let any sound trough and might reflect.

Being from the UK also, here is a product that I will be using for my bass traps. The absorption figures are much better than Rockwool at 45kg/m3 and 100mm thick.

Rock Universal Slab RS45 100 x 1200 x 600mm _283_6m2_2fpack_29
