Green Room Studio @ Utrecht, The Netherlands

Hello boys and girls,

I've got my first very own space and I'm going to build a studio in it called Green Room Studio (gues what the color will be..). I'll keep you posted about the progress. Tips, questions and suggestions are always welcome.

Gr. Freek

Hi there "Freek" (may I call you that)

Seriously though... How about a few more details? Like dimensions to start with!! Any isolation issues, what's on the other side of the walls/ceiling? What's the construction of the walls and ceiling? What type of "market" will you be aiming at, what type of sessions do you envisage? etc etc.

It won't be long on this site before people will start asking you for measurements. So, get yourself to REW - Room EQ Wizard Home Page and download a "free" (...yes free) copy of Room EQ wizard. Learn how to use it. Make your first measurements in your nice clean empty room as a reference.

If you only buy and read one book, make it Home Recording Studio- Build it like the pros, by Rod Gervais. It will sort out a lot of mistakes, before you make them, and raise a lot of questions that you probably hadn't thought to ask.

Good luck

Ah yes! Details, my bad! The room is surrounded by two other rooms and the door is connected to a hallway. The surface is 9,6 meter by 4,06 meter. Height is 2,85 meters.

To keep buildingcosts to a minimal and the fact that I have to leave in 2015, I'll be divide the room with the use of two heavy theater curtains creating a 3 meter long recording booth. The control room will be treathed with Vicoustics panels.

I'm aiming at vocal recording/ADR, instrument recording and composing for media.

Small update.

This week I've threated the whole room with white sealant, filled gaps with expanded polyurethane and replaced the wooden plinths.

i LOVE the pavers! Do you plan to cover the floor? i like how they look, but how do they sound?

Also, was this a garage?

The pavers are awesome indeed! I'm going to place thick carpets on the floor where my desk is going to be and where the musicians are. About 2x3 meters each.

This wasn't a garage, allthough I understand why you think so. It's a former building owned by local authority. It is now available for rent for artist and musicians only.
