Mic in Omni (but a bad room...)

Hello all,

I have a new room that I am sorting out and am limited with what I can do... for now, my question is; recording vocals, I like to set the mic to Omni to get rid of the prox' effect (recording a lot of hiphop and metal) - I find that, in Omni, I am removing a lot of horrid back and forth from some artists... however, in Omni, the room is getting picked up a lot.

I have a Reflexion filter and I know that these things can do more harm than good so I have that set back quite a bit. Any advice?

I already have a screen behind the artist but like I say, in Omni, there's quite a bit of room getting picked up. I'd like to tame this but maybe not remove all the ambience - my last room was as dry as the desert and I wasn;t sure I liked the vox I recorded in there.

any advice mucho appreciated!

If you room is small (most are) then having room sound or a lot of it never sounds all that great. If you treat the room properly it would solve that. Bass trapping in corners and panels in key areas (above the singer, near by walls and so on).
