Studio monitor grounding issue?

Sorry about the noob question ahead of time, but I confess I understand very little about grounding.

I have 2 Yamaha HS50m powered monitors, an iMac, and an Apogee Duet. I have the computer and the monitors all plugged into the same power strip (along with a couple of other things). The monitors are very noisy when I turn them on, even with no noise coming from the Duet. Is this a grounding issue and if so, how can I fix it? Also, if not, any idea what it is?

My house is relatively new and nothing else has any power issues.

a] "when you turn them on" - do they get quieter with time?
b] Just plug one monitor in and drive it with a battery powered music source. noisy or quiet?
