Need help soundproofing my new studio. Calling all genius's and techies!!

Hello,

I have recently started renting an office space that i want to turn into a studio.

I have never done anything like this before but i have done as much research as i can over the last few weeks.

I am looking for some advice on the most efficient and cost effective way of sound proofing this space.

I have attached the room plans and also the room dimensions as a jpg.

The Stud walls are hollow with really thin board on either side so they need alot of work.

There is quite alot of outside noise to keep out.

There are three rooms.

SP1 is where im planning on having the control room.

SP2 is going to be a vocal/instrument booth

BJR is mostly going to be used for jamming and practice but it would be great to turn this in to a live room aswell.

All the ceilings are suspended panel ceilings with a large gap before a corrugated metal roof (i think.)

I have been thinking of doing all the walls and ceilings (except the BJR) with rockwall then using reiliant bars to attatch Gyproc soundbloc on the outside.

What do you think? all ideas much appriciated.

Nice one!
Duncan!

To paraphrase Rush: to a genius, I'm no genius...

It's important to know what's above the suspended ceiling, get an accurate height measurement, etc. I terms of soundproofing, you'll need to decide on what your goals are - in terms of what SPLs will be acceptable to your neighbors and what the environmental noise sources are that you have to keep out of your studio. Those specs will help you determine what kind of approach you'll need to take to reach the goals. It's probably worth the money to hire an acoustician that has experience in studio design so that a trained eye can assess your space and give you feedback on the big picture elements of your proposed plan.
